For a 1-hour panel discussion programme with 4 panel members, there’s often not a lot of time for panellists to say all they want to say. That’s why I did pre-show interviews for Perspectives.
My role as a producer for Perspectives did not just involve producing the main show, I had to also personally meet, brief and conduct a pre-show interview with all the panel members. So if that’s 6 episodes per season and 4 panellist per episode, that meant I went to personally meet 24 people in the space of 2-3 months. I was fortunate enough to have a crew come along with me to film the pre-show interviews which we edited and put up online as a digital video to trail the main show.
This also allowed the panel members to say what they intend to say without interruption, because during the main recording of the panel show, the conversation can be taken any direction.
I quite enjoyed zipping around Singapore conducting these interviews. I was able to gain access into offices and places that I would not usually get to enter.
More importantly I was able to meet amazing people, like down-to-earth Singaporean Ambassador-at-Large Tommy Koh of Singapore:
